Stinchcombe Parish News
July 2009
For the last five years the Stinchcombe Newsletter has been produced four times a year and delivered FREE to all houses and businesses in the Parish. Richard Bartlam has been the driving force behind the newsletter for all this time but has now decided that 'enough is enough' and is stepping down as editor and co-ordinator of the Stinchcombe Community Spirit. The July 2009 edition is therefore the last to be produced as nobody has come forward to replace him. Many thanks to Richard for his outstanding achievements with the newsletter which will be sorely missed throughout the Parish.

Raising the Roof One of Gloucestershire’s most beautiful and historic churches is in danger of losing part of its roof through the ravages of time and weather. The exact origins of the church of St Cyr in our parish of Stinchcombe are unknown but it is believed to be built on the site of a Roman temple. St Cyr was an early Christian martyr in Roman times and the church is named after him. In the early 12th century the Berkeley Castle manuscripts record a chapel at Stinchcombe on the site of previous buildi... Read More >> |

Dick Whittington Comes to Stinchcombe
It may only seem like five minutes since the last one, but it’s time to start thinking about pantomimes again. Next year’s production will be Dick Whittington and the performances will take place on 5th and 6th February. Preparations will begin much earlier with a read-through on Sunday 4th October and auditions the following week on Sunday 11th. New members are always welcome and we could really do with a few more adult actors, so please do feel free to come along. And don’t... Read More >> |

Murder in Stinchcombe
It’s been a while since the Village Players produced anything apart from the annual panto, but this autumn we’re planning to put on another Evening of Murder and Mystery on Saturday October 17th. Once again this will take the form of a “radio” play (this lot will do anything to avoid learning lines!) in which a dastardly (and extremely funny) murder is committed and solved. The audience doesn’t have to do any of the work this time as you won’t be asked to so... Read More >> |

Show News
In the Millennium and Jubilee years, two very enjoyable shows/parties were organised and lots of people asked for more. This is your chance. The Stinchcombe Show is being held on Saturday, 5th September in the Village Hall and hopefully there will be something for everyone. Many of us are enthusiastic gardeners so we thought it would be a good idea if people had a chance to display some of their produce or blooms. Those, who are not keen gardeners, can still take part a... Read More >> |
